What Permanent Roofline Lighting Is
Tiny LED fixtures installed below the soffit of your home, each independently controllable from an app on your phone.
In their default state, they disappear — a single white channel of light that sits flush against the roofline like trim. Most visitors don't realize they're there. From dusk to midnight, they cast a soft sconce-like glow that highlights the architecture of your home in a way nothing else can.
And then, when you want them to, they can do everything else. Full-color holiday displays you turn on the day after Thanksgiving and off on New Year's Day — without anyone climbing a ladder. Team colors on game day. Soft pink for a birthday. Subtle accent lighting for an evening party. All from the app.
Same lights. Same install. Twelve months a year.
Why Gemstone, and Why Us
Light Up Columbus is an authorized Gemstone Lights dealer. We chose Gemstone after years of evaluating permanent lighting systems on real properties — yours and others. The hardware, the app, the durability, and the install method all check out. Most don't.
But the product is only half the equation. The other half is the install.
A Gemstone system installed by an inexperienced crew looks fine the day they finish. Three years in, it tells on itself: visible wiring, uneven spacing, fixtures pulling away from the fascia. We see this in homes our team gets called to fix after another company finished the install.
Our crews are trained specifically on Gemstone hardware. Every installation passes a checklist before it's finished. And every install we do is backed by both Gemstone's manufacturer warranty and Light Up Columbus's own workmanship warranty.
What People Actually Use It For
-
Christmas and Holiday
The original sales pitch and still the most common use. Skip the ladder, the broken bulbs, the storage, the November weekend lost to install. One tap on the app on November 24th, another tap on January 2nd. Done.
-
Daily accent lighting
Most clients leave the system on warm white from dusk to 11pm or midnight, year-round. The home holds its presence on the street, the entry is more welcoming, and the architecture looks finished after dark.
-
Game day, holidays, occasions
Buckeye scarlet and gray on football Saturdays. Orange for Halloween. Red, white, and blue for the Fourth. Pink for a birthday. The system has presets for all of it.
-
Subtle event lighting
When you're hosting outdoors — backyard dinner, anniversary party, graduation — the system creates instant evening ambiance without anyone running an extension cord or hanging a string.
How the Project Works
Consultation
Some companies email a quote without ever bothering to se your home in person. We do things a little differently. A Light Up Columbus designer comes to your property, meet you in person, and discuss the best ways we can help.
MEASURE / DISCERN
The LUC Designer will measure your soffits, inspect attic access, and discern the challanging technical aspects to your installation. A simple roofline is easier than complicated angles, trim, or doormers, and that should be reflected in the cost of the work.
Installation
Our own crews — never subcontractors — install every track, every wire, every transformer. Most residential projects complete in 1-2 days. We really stand out for our ability to make transitions and jumps cleanly. You should barely see your lights during the day.
APP TRAINING
Once the installation is complete, your lead tech will help you download the app and learn how to control your lighting. This is when the fun begins and you get to experiment with over 1300 different preset patterns and colors!
JEALOUS NEIGHBORS
It is inevitable..... If your house is the only one in the neighborhood with Gemstone Lights, your neighbors are going to get jealous. They will instantly regret their attempt to save a few bucks using govee or a generic brand. The good news is you can refer them to LUC and we will help bring joy to their lives as well.
Investment Range
Permanent roofline lighting projects with Light Up Columbus typically range from $5,500 to $18,000, depending on the size of the home and the linear footage of roofline being lit.
The cost is roughly equivalent to 4-6 years of professional holiday light installations — but the system runs for 10-15 years and does everything else the rest of the year.

Compare Before You Buy
Permanent Roofline
If you are comparing permanent lighting systems, you are really comparing three things: the product, the installer, and what happens after the crew leaves.
Holiday looks without ladders, security lighting without spotlights, and one app for all of it. We are happy to walk you through a comparison against any quote you are holding.
Where We Install
We install permanent roofline lighting on homes across Central Ohio — Columbus, Dublin, Upper Arlington, Bexley, New Albany, Westerville, Worthington, Hilliard, Gahanna, Powell, Plain City, Granville, and beyond.
Single-story ranch homes to multi-story estates. Whatever the architecture, the design and install process is the same — every home is measured and laid out individually.
What should you ask before choosing a permanent lighting professional?
Permanent lighting lives on your home year round, so the company and product you choose matter more than the price on the quote. These are the questions we would ask anyone bidding on your home, including us.
Ask us all ten. Ask everyone else too. Then decide. Call 614-832-3139 or request a quote, and we'll bring the answers and the daytime photos.
